Short courses

All short courses are cancelled and will be announced in 2010.

To book a place on the course please fill in an application bellow and send it to Yuri Karpov.
Soon after receiving the required form Yuri Karpov will inform you personally whether you have been enrolled on the course or put on the waiting list if the course is already full. Please wait for the confirmation before to pay the reservation fee (reservation fee is 250 euros).
If an accommodation is required there is a possibility to reserve a room in B&B near by, for more detail please contact Yuri Karpov.

From time to time some Short course would take place in Yuri Karpov’s workshop-studio. List of possible specializations and techniques taught in Short courses is follow:

  • Wood carving
  • Hand lacquering and polishing
  • Marquetry modern knife technique
  • Marquetry traditional fretsaw French technique
  • Traditional water gilding and silvering
  • Basics of conservation and restoration
  • Understanding antique decorative surfaces on wooden objects
  • Understanding different types of wood and sharpening techniques for hand tools

It is possible that the group of students would combine some beginners as well as those who have an advanced knowledge already. This will beneficial for both.
The group will be formed of 3 – 4 participants maximum.       
The language of communication is English.
The course lasts for 5 working days, where lectures and practical work are combined together.
 It is suggested to have and bring own tools for the course. If a tool set is required for a student Yuri Karpov must be informed in advance. All the necessary materials are included in the cost of the course.
Every student would have own working place during the course. This must be kept clean and well maintend.   
The cost of the course is based on:

  • The tuition by Yuri Karpov
  • Required materials and tools (does not cover any project out of the course schedule)
  • A simple of work that every student would take at home after finishing the course
  • Sandwiches on the first day and a glass of wine and sandwiches on the last day, biscuits and tea or coffee during tea brakes 

The timetable for a normal course day:

10u00 Beginning of the course
10u15-11u00 Morning lecture (on the first day the lecture will last a little longer)
11u00-12u00 Practical work
12u00-12u30 Lunch break (sandwiches will be provided on the 1st and 5th day)
12u30-14u00 Practical work
14u00-15u00 Tea break to discuss questions and problems
15u00-16u30 Practical work (on the last day final assessment will start from 15u00 with a little celebration and a glass of wine)
16u00 Day assessment
16u30 Leaving the workshop, end of the working day

The cost of the course is 375 euros per person (excluding 21% VAT). A discount for a couple could be made up to 15% from the total. To reserve a place on the course 250 euros must be paid in advance. The balance must be paid before the end of the course. Before to reserve a place on the course an interview must be arranged, followed by an appointment of a phone conversation. If an agreement has been reached during the interview the required sum would be asked to be paid to reserve the place on the course.
