Philosophy & Ethics
The most important of all is to understand an item and its problems. This will help to bring an object to its best condition where its potential will be fully revealed and appreciated by anyone who is attached to the art by profession or passion.
It is a policy at the Yuri's workshop-studio to use primarily organic materials and hand tools for Conservation & Restoration work as well as for creating new items. Follow the way how it has been done traditionally in the past. This brings to Yuri's work true originality and unmistakable uniqueness in quality.
In some cases it is possible to use modern and manmade materials or even some material-substitutes for some particular treatments such as: woodworm treatment or removing a marquetry plate from a wooden panel for example.
The aim in Conservation & Restoration process at Yuri Karpov workshop-studio is to reveal and restore (bring back) an object or its missing parts to its original condition and look as it has been meant by its creator long time ago (sometimes maker and designer is the same person). Without changing its original line and interfering with a unique time pattern that has been left through its life. If necessary free an object from its unsuitable alterations and unnecessary changes that has been made in the past according to temporary fashions and popular movements of the mode.
The aim in Designing & Making process of a new piece of furniture or interior decoration, at Yuri's workshop is to create a completed stylistic ensemble where the esthetical appearance and practical use of an item would bring pleasure and a joy to its owners.
